Apple's engineers are apparently concentrating more on their future augmented reality (AR) — mixed reality (MR) headset, so iOS 17, the company's impending major upgrade, won't likely include any significant changes.
According to reports, the impending iOS 17 update from tech giant Apple won't include any significant changes because its engineers are mostly working on its upcoming augmented reality (AR) — mixed reality (MR) headset.
Because Apple is concentrating more on xrOS for the future headset, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman claims that iOS 17, code-named "Dawn," and macOS 14, code-named "Sunburst," are likely to include "fewer big updates than originally intended."
Additionally, according to Gurman, Apple will not be making any significant changes to its iPad, AirPods, Apple TV, or Apple Watch product lines in 2023.
A new version of the AirPods Max may not be released this year since he added that there won't be any "of note" enhancements to the AirPods portfolio.
Speaking of the Apple Watch, Gurman noted that aside from a few minor performance upgrades to different Apple Watch models, he does not anticipate any significant hardware changes this year.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated last week that the mass shipping of the iPhone maker's planned MR headsets will be postponed until the end of the second or third quarter of this year.
The delay, in Kuo's words, was brought on by problems with mechanical component drop testing and the availability of software development tools, which put the development of the headsets behind schedule.
